I really should start getting used to calling Lucas Lucas and James James. I keep mixing the two up dammit! Anyway, Lucas’ pix is done. Finally. He turned out looking Saiyuki-ish for some reason. Nung una he reminded me of Heero Yuy, then for some reason he turned Hakkai-ish on me. Didn’t plan on him looking like that. His first sketch didn’t look anything like the final one. Well, hope Ana-nechan’ll like the final sketch of Jam-este, Lucas.

By the way, showed my mom Vincent’s and Lucas’ pics and made her choose who looks better between the two. She said she likes both their looks, too different daw to compare. Then she added that Vincent looks a way lot well fed than Lucas. Figured that should be about right since Vincent’s a veritable prince at his home and all… dunno about Lucas’ situation at home but considering he’s a CMT officer and pretty active and athletic, well… I think I drew him just about right.

Colin I’m having a HARD time with. He’s just too stubborn about his clothing and colors. I’m trying to finish coloring his pic right now while trying to connect to the darned internet. Dang stubborn assed boy is giving me a headache. He just has to look p-e-r-f-e-c-t, he says. Guess first impression’s always do last, especially for a fictional character heheh ^^

Napagtripan ko lang tingnan meaning ng mga names ng pips sa L-16. So here goes:

Samantha – obscure, listener
Stephanie – crown
Raine – mighty army
Mary – bitter, their rebellion, star of the sea Violet – a violet
Leila – night, dark

Vincent – conquering, victorious
Colin – victory of the people
Lucas - light
Oscar – divine spear

It’s curious to note that while Vincent means conquering and victorious, Stephanie – his current gf in the story – means crown. Together: Conquering the crown? What a connotation! Hahaha!!! ^_^

Had a rather eventful day today.

Started it early at 12 am. I was at NAIA waiting with my mom and Tita Betty for Tito Susing's arrival. He arrived at around 1am, then we went ahead and bought flowers for the Mary Help of Christian fiest day at our parish, Tita's the one in charge of it so my mom and I are helping her.

Slept at the car. Didn't know when we got back, the car was just in front of our house.

My mom went to church and the market and brought with her some ingredients for making pancit, so I had to help out chop some vegetables.

Was still feeling lethargic from sleep when Ana called and all thoughts of sleep went right out the window with what she had to tell me.

The rest of the morning was spent in an SMS discussion with Tin regarding a very important person in her life whose neck I still want to wring the moment I meet this person.

Afternoon saw us at the mall with Tita Betty and Tito Susing again doing the grocery and just going around wasting the rest of the day. Wished I didn't go with them anymore so I could have finished sketching the drawings I owe Ana-nechan. Nadagdagan pa ng isa nga pala... so far done with Colin and Lucas. Vincent and Ozzy still elude me. Then there's Leila. Then scan and clean and color everything...

Anyways, my pasalubong from Tito were Kuya Jojo's old nursing textbooks. Nice. Really. At least I dont have to spend a tidy sum buying those books.

And Tita showed us some pics of Kuya's kids. Real cute little buggers, I must say. Here's a pic of them:

I want to strangle the whole KNP lineup. Gah!

Anyway here’s my take about the movie, Troy:

Agamemnon and Menelaus. Couldn’t the producers have casted someone more pleasing to the eyes? Granted that there are more than enough eye-candy with Paris, Hector and Achilles... but gods, having to see those two big brutes on screen… gah! Among the Greeks, except for Achilles of course, the only other one worthy enough to watch is Odysseus.

The timeframe of the plot. I’ve read the Iliad and the whole Trojan War took *years* and not mere weeks like the movie showed.

Eye candy. Well, for the ladies anyway. Funny that the two (more or less) heartthrobs in the film had their respective almost-nude scenes... well, more than one scene with Achilles, but then he’s the main character in the movie’s plot so he gets a lot more air time.

They made Priam too... I dunno, dumbly religious?

They gave Achilles a heart. I’ve always had this image of him being a huge dickhead after I read the Iliad.

Helen’s eye makeup was a bit too dark. Made her look older.

Cassandra was missing. They didn’t include her in the cast. Ni-anino nya wala. And she’s a princess of Troy for crying out loud!

It is rather nice how and where Achilles died. He desecrated Apollo’s temple at the start, and he died by an arrow in front of Apollo’s statue. Nicely done, that. Apollo seemingly working behind the scenes. It’s good that they didn’t make the Olympian gods too central. Not like the book where Apollo or Athena or Poseidon or Zeus are said to be the reasons behind almost every major situation in the plot.

The theme of the film is that of a man’s search for immortality, of the assurance that generations would remember a person’s name because of the great deeds that he has done during his lifetime. Achilles and Hector were both heroes in their own right, depends on which perspective one is looking through. Achilles was a hero to the Greeks, he saved them from a whole lot of bloodshed by championing them against their foes. To the Trojans, Hector was a hero; dying for the country and people he loved. It’s really ironic though that despite the film’s theme, of the quest to be remembered, so to speak, by history, history in itself has not been kind to the memory of Achilles and Hector. Hector’s a virtual unknown outside of the more scholarly and literary circles. He’s not as famous as, let’s say… Harry Potter. And Achilles is remembered for his one weakness, his heel. I think I’d rather be forgotten than be immortalized in that way.

The film was a bit boring. I guess that’s coz I already know the story, coz I’ve already read the book. Like in the LotR and HP movies, it is nice to see those beloved characters being so nicely portrayed on film. Easier to watch rather than read but still highly predictable.

It’s ironic that knowing about the Iliad now, reading it and knowing about all its characters and background, seems to be something “cool”, an “in” thing, amongst the younger set, at least with the few teens I overheard at UA. They were all talking about the movie while waiting in line during enrollment. What a change from when I was in high school where I remember people looking oddly at me when I used to read Greek myth, Homer and etc. as light reading. Now it’s seems to be “cool” if one is seen with a copy of the book, just coz it got turned into a movie with Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom in it. I guess it’s still good because more people have now become interested in reading compared to before... at least it seems that way anyway.

Had to reformat Genrou yet again coz he contracted a bleeding virus that made using him sheer hell. He's doing fine right now, hope it lasts.

Ana-nechan! Na-upload ko na po pics ng mga 4 girls sa illu ml. Just get them sa files section.

Tin! Kailan balik mo sa Mla?

Uy, girls tentative pa lang talaga a, pero if matutuloy trip nyo dito samin baka sa 26 & 27 kayo pwedeng pumunta. I still have to know what my class sched is so I'll update you bout that.

Emski! Sama ka a? But do you have office pag Sabado?

Am going out later to enroll and watch Troy. Wonder if it's any good...

Watched Van Helsing with my mom. She liked it; I didn’t.

Well, apart from it being nice to see so many familiar characters like Dracula and his brides, Frankenstein, and etc, it was just like those James Bond films only with a gothic twist.

The plot’s way too predictable. The usual elements of an action-adventure flick’s in it: a dashing hero and his sidekick, a pretty damsel in distress (granted she can fight but still, in essence she’s still a damsel in distress), a seemingly invincible enemy who has a whole plethora of oddball minions, and the ever used-up quest of the hero to “find himself”, in this case the hero’s memory of his past. Gah…

The CGI was reminiscent of Underworld. Dark. Gothic. About Underworld, I found it kinda funny that what’s-her-name, the main female character of Underworld, where she’s a vampire, was now a vampire hunter in Van Helsing. Talk about role reversal. Plus Van Helsing had a brief spell as a werewolf, and wasn’t what’s-her-name’s partner in Underworld a werewolf too? Wonder who the two movie’s writers are and if they know each other or if they compared notes?

Hugh Jackman’s costume reminded me of Vampire Hunter D’s clothes. Sorta western gunslinger type. At least he wasn’t wearing black leather… or at least I don’t think he was wearing black leather sides his boots.

Dracula and his brides weren’t even that scary. The brides looked like typical renaissance harlots with their makeup and clothes; while the supposedly great Dracula himself is a sorry excuse for the legend that his name bears…

The actor who played Faramir in LotR is a bumbling horny friar in this movie who I guess is supposed to be the comic relief but drastically failed being that. Dracula’s facial expressions were actually funnier.

I’m not really sorry for the spoilers. It’s my blog and I write what I want to.

Had two dreams that involved our local church; both of them oddly having something to do with heights and escaping from someone.

The first dream I had from a few days ago showcased me slowly falling, like Nicholas Cage’s character in City of Angels, from atop the dome of the church. My background music was the Alleluia song the choir sang during Easter Sunday. The song ended the split second before my body came in contact with the floor. I woke up then, knowing I died in the dream, and somehow knowing that I escaped a worse death had I lived longer.

The second dream, this one I had just last night, had me climbing up the walls and hiding near the ceiling of the church. The people who entered the church just as I reached the ceiling were monsters. They didn’t look like it but I knew they were. I was so afraid to move, but I knew I had to because if just one of them glanced up they would certainly see me and I’d be captured. I stealthily progressed towards the dome where I knew there was an emergency exit, but one of them heard me opening the dome’s hidden door. The person, I don’t know if it was male or female, just jumped and flew high up till he or she stood between me and the door. This was when I woke up.

Why am I writing about this? Well, I had thought recently that I view our church as a place of peace, that it is some place where I could feel at ease. Seems my subconscious is telling me I feel otherwise.

Had a surprisingly good time yesterday when I had my physical examination at Mt. Carmel Medical Hospital. Mostly because of my former classmates in section C and the doctor who examined us. The doctor had, to say the least, a good sense of humor. He reminded me of Terrence Panlilio. Not my usual type but worthwhile to talk to... well, more like banter with. And that's necessarily what we did the whole physical exam: flirt with each other. Too bad really that I won't see him again heheheh ^^0

San Jose’s Feast Day’s over!!! For this year anyways. Sayang I wasn’t able to take pictures of the flower arrangements we did for the church. Our parish priest complimented us, saying they look especially nice ^_^ Me proud coz I did several of the arrangements myself.

Too bad I wasn’t able to go with Jenny R and the rest of the swankies to Baguio. Sorry talaga Jen, it coincided with San Jose so I couldn’t go even if I wanted to.

May na! Taragisan naman! Less than one month left for summer vacation. Our enrolment’s on the last week of May. I’ll be taking 5 med-related courses this sem… wah! Tang-i 7 units lang naman yung isa, tapos yung isa pa 5 units lang naman siya! Excited na ko!!! Not.

Turns out my cousin Paul’s not gonna enroll in the same school. He opted for another one in Manila. Dunno where. Dunno why. Don’t care. Wahahaha!!! Ang sama ko talagang pinsan! Nah, thing is, I really didn’t want that kid as a possible school mate, let alone a possible classmate. Would have been weird, that.

Ana, I owe you a description of Susie’s right? I’ll just post it here coz I’m too lazy to send it as a separate email…

Okay, Susie’s…

It started as a small shop selling pastries, mainly cupcakes that look really plain but are melt-in-your-mouth-oh-so-good. They branched out to kakanins like cassava cakes, mochi (made of ground sticky rice & thick coconut milk), and the usual suman, sapin-sapin, maja blanca, etc. Then they turned themselves into a cafeteria style place where you can order sandwiches, pastas of diff variants, and their new specialty: palabok that’s full of recados. All items in their menu are ultra affordable, pang-masa ang price. I think a plate of palabok or pasta is around 40-50 pesos. The kakanins are around 20-ish per serving. Less than a 100 pesos for a dozen cupcakes. Oh yeah, they also sell brownies, lemon squares, and other yummy pastries pa. You won’t think much of the place when you see it though, and it’s kinda hard to find if you’re not familiar with the place. It’s in the old Nepo Mart, near those selling rtw clothes.

Hmmm… what else? That’s most of what I can remember of it. I’ll ask Tita Betty to stop over there when next we go to Angeles.
