All About Food

Was tasked to be cook for yesterday’s class party. Hoped our C.I.s would come but they didn’t. Would have been fun if they did.

Anyways, speaking about food, I just tried out a recipe I got from Heny Sison’s show last Sunday. It’s Steamed Chocolate Pudding. Altered the recipe a bit by by adding crushed pecans. It tastes somewhat like that chocolate cake from Red Ribbon (I guess depende sa chocolate brand na gagamitin, I used that Dark Swiss Chocolate thingie I bought sa SM Supermarket and it turned out pretty okay. Wala akong mahanap na bitter sweet choco eh.) only a hell of a lot softer and more decadent coz of the caramel sauce poured on top.

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:
125g bitter sweet chocolate, chopped
1cup butter
1 piece egg
1cup sugar
1cup all purpose flour
2teaspoons baking powder
1cup fresh milk
1tablespoon vanilla

(For the caramel sauce)
2cups sugar
1/4cup butter
1cup heavy cream
brandy

Method:
Prepare the ingredients. Get a baking pan or mould (pwedeng lanera, yung pang leche flan ba?) and brush the mould with some of the butter (para ‘wag mag stick yung cake at madali siyang i-release later). Sift the baking powder and flour together (sift 3 times). In a double broiler, melt the butter and bitter sweet chocolate. When these are melted, take off from the fire and add the egg (temper the egg muna with a bit of choco+butter mixture before adding it to the whole mixture, para wag maluto/mag-buo-buo yung egg), sugar, vanilla, sifted dry ingredients, and milk. Mix well preferably with wire whisk. Strain the concoction to make sure walang buo-buo na bits (Actually didn’t strain mine anymore since I added pecans to the mixture while mixing it.) Then put in the butter-brushed mould, cover with aluminum foil and steam for 1 ½ hours. You’ll know it’s cooked when if you touch the pudding, it springs back. When it’s cooked, let it cool on its mould at room temperature. Release from the mould and pour the sauce on top.

For the sauce; caramelize the sugar with the butter. Then add cream and brandy.

I like recipes like these coz we don’t have an oven at home. We do have a steamer so recipes like these are rather easy and fun to do. Grabe, when you eat this make sure you have a pitcher of water nearby coz sobra siyang sugary sweet. As in konti lang nabusog na ako since every bite umiinom ako ng tubig hahahah ^^0

Checked out Jamie Oliver’s official site (http://jamieoliver.com) and gods wow! I just love all the recipes available there! Especially the salads and vegetarian stuff. Yum!!!

Am planning to make a salad tomorrow with the following ingredients:
Feta cheese, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, hard boiled egg, lemon, balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil and parsley. Wonder what the hell it’ll taste like hahahah...^^0
