Board Requirements
As the owner of blog Pinoy R.N. stated: The following "are a few of the things every nursing student needs to complete before earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree." Namely:
- Four (4) gruelling years of academic and clinical training
- Five (5) Major Operation Scrubs, Five (5) Minor Operation Scrubs
- Five (5) Delivery Room Handles, Five (5) Delivery Room Assists, Five (5) Cord Dresses
- Countless Case Studies and Presentations
- Countless Nursing Care Plans and Nursing Assessments
- Countless Drug Studies and Defense
- Hundreds of patients across the life span with varying needs
In my case, the only thing missing from the above list are the completed number of cases for OR and DR. So far, as of my last count, I have 2 DR Actual Deliveries, 2 Cord Cares, and 1 Major Operation. Officially that is. I've actually done more than that in my 2 years of RLE (i.e. hospital duty) assigned in the DR/OR of various hospitals around Pampanga. But recently, we were told that 4 of the hospitals we were assigned to are not credited by the Board of Nursing. Meaning that the cases we performed (be they in the DR or in the OR) at those hospitals are all completely USELESS (well, except for the experience we gained from them but still...). Why assign us to those hospitals if they aren't credited in the first place?! It's such a huge waste of time! And I H-A-T-E it when people waste my time, dammit!!!
So yeah, this post is a rant. Deal with it. It's my blog anyway. I need to let off steam. I'm really truly positively PISSED OFF!!! I should only be troubling myself with completing my OR cases but now I'm freaking back to nearly ZERO on my DR cases!!! And I only have the rest of February and March to complete them! If I don't do so by the end of March, it means I'll either be on-call trying to complete my cases in April and May and virtually BEGGING people and PAYING EXTRA just for case completion. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY...
And it's not bloody helping that in our electives this coming Feb26 to March5, the geniuses who makes the stupid rotation plan and schedules put our group in JBL's Pediatric Ward. Yes. The Pedia-fucking Ward!!! WTF?!?!?!?! Pucha! Anong cases and makukuha ng buong group if nasa Pedia ward kami?! We NEED to be assigned at the OR or DR, not wasting our precious little time at the pediatric ward. Kung sanang samin din yung NICU para man lang sana may Cord Care cases e kaso hiwalay yung building ng NICU sa Pedia Ward so you can say goodbye to that idea. Ms. Nono assured me that as soon as the other groups who are assigned in the OR/DR have completed their cases, she'll have the group assignments swapped, but really now, who the hell is she kidding?! And why do they fricking get first priority?! GRRRRRRRRRRRR... pare-pareho lang naman ang binabayad namin ha! Taragisan talaga! It's fucking unfair!!!
Why is this so important? The reason lang naman is that a BSN grad won't be allowed to take the Nursing Board Exam unless he/she has the complete number of cases. And there IS a deadline for submitting the cases, applying for the June Board Exam, etc. So can you understand now why I'm so pissed off?! Haaaaaaaaaaaayyy!!!

Ack! What the hell...?!
The school should have made sure you got into accredited hospitals at the very least. That's very irresponsible of the administration. Couldn't you and your classmates file a protest of some sort to the Nursing Board?
